How did you meet?
Very cliché but… we met at work!
Tell us about the proposal!
I have a habit of being a bit of a detective so Matt really wanted it to be a surprise and for it to be totally unexpected.
We were getting ready to have friends over for a bbq and he stopped me in our kitchen and told me he didn’t like my outfit (!!) but that he had laid out something better in the lounge next to the wine rack (strange place to put clothes). Given he has never bought me clothes before I was very confused but soon figured out what was going on…I walked in, saw the most beautiful ring, turned around and he was down on one knee! We then had our friends round for our bbq (and champagne too) to celebrate!
How did you choose where to shop for your wedding dress?
I’d heard several rave reviews about Isabella Grace and Tunbridge Wells is a favourite place of mine so it was the very first place I booked. After visiting the shop, I knew I had found the dress but just to be sure I visited a few other bridal shops. Nothing compared to the dress I found at Isabella Grace! Nor did any other shop or their staff. It’s truly one of a kind.
Tell us about your wedding dress experience, and why did you choose your wedding dress.
Many of my friends and family are overseas or back home in Australia but I am lucky enough to now have two fabulous sister in laws and a gorgeous mutual friend who I dragged along with me. We made a day of it and went for lunch and drinks afterwards. It was such a lovely day that I will always remember.
I knew I wanted a long train and veil but apart from that I was open to trying anything on. Both Sarah and Carrie were amazing – so helpful and just lovely people to have around.
As soon as I tried on my dress, my face just lit up. Everyone could see how comfortable I felt. We all decided that sleeves would finish the dress of beautifully so the ladies at Isabella Grace then helped source the lovely Ami to make bespoke sleeves for me.
I chose my dress because it had a bit of everything I wanted – just the right amount of detail, long train, gorgeous fabric and even though I wasn’t the size I wanted to be on the day at the time, it still looked amazing.
Isabella Grace just made the whole experience so wonderful and am truly grateful for all their help and guidance with finding my very special dress.
Describe your wedding day. Where, when, how…
Our wedding ceremony was held at St Thomas the Apostle – an ancient, quaint, special little church at Harty on the Isle of Sheppey at the end of September 2018.
We took a bit of a risk getting married late September but we couldn’t have been blessed with a more perfect day. We had blue skies and the sun shone down on us all day.
I had a lovely morning getting ready with my mum and bridesmaids. Terri and Harriet did our makeup and hair and I couldn’t recommend them highly enough -they are so talented and just a delight to have around. We were a little late getting to the church because we were all having such a lovely morning together!
I must admit our church service was a bit of blur. I was just so excited to arrive at the church and see Matt and all our nearest and dearest and the truly stunning flowers that Joanne and her helpers put together for us. They were out of this world!
We were able to enjoy drinks and canapes on the terrace in the sunshine overlooking the water at the Harty (Ferry House Inn) a very special and well-known pub to us – the venue and staff were amazing. Especially Phil, our toastmaster – he made our day run seamlessly. Our wedding breakfast was then held in their events marquee which looked incredible – I cried happy tears the first time I saw it all set up. A “floral explosion” is how it was described by a few people – it was beautiful and just what I (I mean we) had envisaged.
Our 3-course wedding breakfast was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. As were our speeches which were hilarious but very heartfelt too.
There was lots of cake, dancing and drinking to finish the night off of course. Matt and I were still buzzing at the end of the night we stayed up to open all our cards in our suite till the early hours of the morning.
It was an incredible day and we can’t thank everyone enough who was a part of it.
Favourite part of your wedding day?
My favourite part was arriving at the church and seeing everyone. I think everyone, including Matt, were very relieved to see me given I was just over 35minutes late! Whoops!
Anything you would change if you could do it all again?
I wouldn’t change a thing! No matter how much you plan, nothing ever goes perfectly to plan but that’s just life really and made it all the more special.
Your top tip for future brides?
My top tip would be – be organised! I work in the City as an EA so I’m lucky this comes naturally to me but it made things a lot easier to enjoy the run up because you will always have a few things crop up that need addressing no matter how many phone calls or reminder emails you send! I’d recommend keeping a file with everything in it – but just make sure you can hide it in a bag as people start running away from you when you bring the wedding folder out.
