How did you meet?
Bradley and I met when we were 11! (So you would say we’re childhood sweethearts!) We went to the same school and were always friends but didn’t get together until our final year (aged 16). My family and friends always knew that we would always be together, so I guess we just count ourselves lucky that we have been able to share all these years and have even more memories through the times of growing up and being where we are now.
Tell us about the proposal!
You would think that after being together for 6 years (at the time we got engaged) that I would have expected it, but I didn’t! We were on a family holiday in Sydney, Australia which has always been a bucket list location for us. We went for a meal all together at a place called Watson’s Bay which has incredible waterfront views of the Sydney skyline – and yes, it was at picturesque as you can imagine! After an amazing dinner, which Bradley hardly had any of (and I finished off!) we went for a wonder around the restaurant and ended up listening to the waves admiring the view over a balcony. My now, sister-in-law was taking some pictures of us and ended up capturing the proposal as Bradley nervously got down on one knee and all he could mumble was “will you marry me”. He had this whole speech planned, which you often see in a movie, but no. Nerves took over and I’m sure a lot of other people can relate to this too! He could barely find the words to ask the question. After what felt like forever of me going “no, no, no, no, don’t do this, are you serious?!” I eventually said “yes” to a very worried looking face that Bradley had developed as he began to think that I was going to say no. It makes us laugh every time we rethink this moment, but it really was perfect for us.
How did you choose where to shop for your wedding dress?
Shopping at Isabella Grace was always a dream of mine from when we started planning our wedding day as I heard so many great things about the shop and the experience you get. It also has the most amazing collection of dresses and stocked several designers that I was interested in trying. I had received recommendations from friends and my wedding venue to shop here and I honestly couldn’t have asked for anything better. The attention to detail and service that the girls at Isabella Grace provide is everything that a bride would want (and more!).
Tell us about your wedding dress experience, and why did you choose your wedding dress.
The day that I decided on my wedding dress I had arrived at Isabella Grace with my mum. I wanted to keep the experience intimate and we had the entire shop to ourselves. I remember that the shop looked and smelt amazing! Which is a big plus for me as “scent” was a focus of our day. I immediately felt at ease and I just enjoyed myself the whole time. I really did feel special and every bride should. This experience is something so unique and it should be about you. I remember we went through budgets, designers, types of dresses I liked or have been inspired by and we chose a small selection of dresses to try first. I think sometimes brides can be easily overwhelmed and confused with the amount of dresses we end up trying, so having someone experienced guide you through can really help. I remember deciding between two similar dresses both an Essence of Australia design. They just felt like “me”. The one I ended up going for I felt incredible in, and it still gives me goose bumps thinking about it! The designer of the dress was from Australia, which provided a link to where we got engaged so it just gave it even more meaning to me.
Describe your wedding day. Where, when, how…
Our wedding day was held on 5th October 2017 at The Old Kent Barn. We knew this venue was perfect for us from the first time we ever visited it, we just had to get married here! I know that every bride will describe their wedding day as “perfect” and ours truly was. This venue was everything. The staff are incredible and just everything about it made our day that bit extra special. We chose October as we both love autumn and we wanted autumnal colours to be incorporated into our day. But we also wanted to get married outside if we could, which with the UK weather you can never predict! But luck was on our side and it happened. The October sun was shining throughout the ceremony and that may be down to a bird giving some “good luck” to Bradley on the arm of his suit jacket 5 minutes before I was due to walk down the aisle!!! You literally couldn’t even write it! But our day was full of love, laughter and family. We couldn’t have wished for anything more.
Favourite part of your wedding day?
Well this is the hardest question of them all! And I really am struggling to come up with a single favourite part. From getting ready with my favourite people in the morning, to the anticipation of seeing Bradley at the end of the aisle – to just finally being by his side. The whole ceremony which we had filmed, the amazing wedding breakfast provided by the chef at The Old Kent Barn. The speeches, watching everyone enjoy themselves and laughing. Having an untraditional cutting of the cake where I smashed a doughnut into Bradley’s face! Our first dance, having wedding pong (provided by our DJ), dancing the night away with our favourite people. To the end of the night where we ate doughnuts and bacon rolls in bed! It honestly was our perfect day.
Anything you would change if you could do it all again?
Absolutely nothing. Although maybe just have a documentary of the ENTIRE day rather than just videography so that we can relive the whole day again haha!
Your top tip for future brides?
Firstly – relax! You’re marring the love of your life, so relax and enjoy every moment. It goes so quickly so there is honestly no point worrying or stressing. And secondly, be with your new husband! I’ve been to many weddings and noticed that the new husband and wife are often apart. Bradley and I barely left each other’s sides and it was noticed! It was our day and we wanted to enjoy it together, and we’re so glad that we did.
