How did you meet?
Ian was playing cricket over in Australia for 6 months. About 2 months into his time there, he and I met in possibly the worst nightclub in Adelaide!! After much persistence (from him), I finally gave him my number! We started spending a lot of time together and very quickly fell in love. When it was time for Ian to return to England, we decided that what we had was something special – so I followed him to the other side of the world!
Tell us about the proposal!
When I arrived in England, the first place Ian took me to was one of his favourite places from childhood – Seaford Head overlooking the Seven Sisters. Everything about that time was so exciting and new, and this became a very special place for us both. 4 years later he took me back there for a picnic. After a long walk hand in hand, he got down on one knee… and I immediately burst into (happy) tears!!
How did you choose where to shop for your wedding dress?
Living in Tunbridge Wells, I had driven past Isabella Grace so many times and had always looked longingly at the beautiful dresses in the window as I went past! A number of people I knew had bought their dresses from Isabella Grace, so it was the first place on my list!
Tell us about your wedding dress experience, and why did you choose your wedding dress.
I went into Isabella Grace with 2 of my (EIGHT!!!!) bridesmaids with fairly clear ideas of what I wanted. Well… my dress ended up being absolutely NOTHING like I thought I would want! Luckily for me, the incredible women at Isabella Grace know their stuff! After I had tried on 5 or so beautiful dresses without falling in love, one of the assistants picked out my dress for me. I was reluctant at first, but they insisted that I humour them by putting it on! When they opened the curtains for the ‘big reveal’ we ALL cried! It was such an overwhelming experience, I knew immediately that I had found “the dress”. I especially loved that the dress had a corset hidden under the silk outer lining which highlighted my waist and made me feel great (I couldn’t eat anything, but it was worth it!!!).
Describe your wedding day. Where, when, how…
Our wedding took place on Sunday 23rd September 2018 at Upwaltham Barns near Petworth. It had been torrential rain the days leading up to the wedding and it was forecast to continue for our wedding. By some miracle, 10 minutes before the ceremony started the clouds parted and we had beautiful sunshine for the whole day! We still can’t believe our luck!
My dad walked me down the aisle after my eight bridesmaids and adorable flower girl (my niece aged 18 months). We had two readings by two of my bridesmaids, and a beautiful song by another bridesmaid. My Godmother conducted the ceremony and included so many personal touches to really make it special. After the ceremony we had a cocktail hour in the sunny courtyard with drinks and canapes for the guests whilst Ian and I had our photos taken. We then had a delicious 2 course wedding breakfast followed by speeches (which were surprisingly hilarious!). After cutting the cake and enjoying our first dance, our band got the party started and we stayed on the dance floor all night!! It truly was even more perfect than we could have imagined.
Favourite part of your wedding day?
It is so hard to choose! Seeing Ian’s face as I walked down the aisle towards him was such a perfect moment. But there is one particular memory which makes me smile when I think of it– it was near to the end of the night and the whole room was up dancing to Mr Brightside. Ian and I were dancing together (and yelling the lyrics at each other!!). As the song was finishing we looked around to see that everyone else in the room had circled around us and were clapping and smiling at us. We didn’t notice it happening, and still don’t really know how it came about, but they all looked SO happy! That really made my day!
Anything you would change if you could do it all again?
I would try to relax a bit more in the morning of the wedding. I was so stressed!! Other than that, there is absolutely nothing I would have done differently!
Your top tip for future brides?
STRESS LESS!!!! There are some things which are out of your control, and regardless of little hiccups which may happen along the way, by the end of your day you will be married to the love of your life! That is, after all, what it is all about!
