How did you meet?
We have known each other on and off for years, but eventually started hanging out again after bumping into each other through mutual friends as late teens. After 10 years of being together (!!!!) we finally decided it was time to get married.
Tell us about the proposal!
Mark proposed on the beach in Siesta Key, Florida! Our flight was delayed but he had his heart set on asking me on the first night of our holiday. It was so late and dark by the time we arrived, I could hardly see him down on one knee in the sand, or the ring… or our best friends who were hiding down by the sea!!!
How did you choose where to shop for your wedding dress?
I had heard Tunbridge Wells was the place to go for wedding dress shopping, and after looking at the rave reviews online for Isabella Grace, I didn’t even feel the need to book an appointment anywhere else.
Tell us about your wedding dress experience, and why did you choose your wedding dress.
After explaining to Amy which styles I did and didn’t like, she told me she had a particular dress in mind that she thought I might love. We saved this dress till last to try on and she was right! It was absolutely perfect – fitted in the top half and floaty in the bottom, and a mixture of both lace and tulle. It was so comfortable and I felt like me in it. The back of the dress was probably my favourite part, with the lace design trailing upwards. I had my mum and maid of honour with me, and we celebrated choosing the dress by toasting with a glass of prosecco – perfect.
Describe your wedding day. Where, when, how…
We got married at Winters Barns, Canterbury, on the 7th September 2019, in an outdoor ceremony. The weather was a bit touch and go in the morning but as soon as I was about to walk down the aisle, the sun literally came out that very moment! The most important thing to us was that everybody had a fun and relaxing day. Our bridesmaids wore long, simple, burgundy dresses and carried bouquets full of green foliage and white roses. The ceremony was followed by outdoor drinks and canapés, a harpist, speeches, more food and drink and plenty of dancing in the old barn.
Favourite part of your wedding day?
All of it! We thought we would be really nervous all day, but ended up being so excited and buzzing about everything that we didn’t have time to feel nervous! The best thing is just seeing everyone around you smiling and laughing together. And of course marrying each other.
Anything you would change if you could do it all again?
Nothing – we planned as much as we could and luckily, everything went exactly to plan!
Your top tip for future brides?
Make sure you find time to stand back with your new husband and absorb everything that’s going on around you. The whole day feels like such a blur so these moments are really important! Also forget about other people’s ideas of “tradition” and just do what makes you both happy.
