How did you meet?
In A&E! Kieren is a Paramedic, and I was sat in the waiting room with my sister, who happened to know Kieren. He came over to say hi after recognising my sister, and we were introduced. A few months later we’d kept in touch and he finally asked me out!!
Tell us about the proposal!
Well… We were on a trip to Tromso, Norway and had been out on a hunt for the Northern Lights.
Unfortunately, there had been a huge snow storm that afternoon so it was still really cloudy, and we were pretty much out of luck for spotting the lights. However, we were in a beautiful valley in a small clearing that was candlelit to avoid any light pollution for Aurora Borealis hunters! That same night there was a Super Moon, and as the clouds cleared and we hoped to see some lights, we were still out of luck but it lit up this valley and it looked as though we were in a Christmas card! Anyway, next thing I knew, Kieren had “spotted something in the snow” and got down on one knee to have a look… still oblivious I wondered what he was doing until he presented a ring box and asked me to be his wife! We might not have had the Northern Lights, but we did have a beautiful starry sky above… oh and Champagne which he’d also hidden in the snow to chill!!
How did you choose where to shop for your wedding dress?
I had tried a couple of other shops before, but was seeing a lot of the same designers. One of my friends had bought their wedding dress from Isabella Grace the year before and recommended you highly! (Beth Gunby/ Laffar). I had also started researching dress designers and found that several dresses I was drawn to were by Essence of Australia, and as it happened Isabella Grace was a stockist so I booked an appointment!
Tell us about your wedding dress experience, and why did you choose your wedding dress.
Maybe unusually, I came to Isabella Grace on my own. I had been to a couple of dress shops before with my mum, my sister, my aunt, my cousin, my friends… and although it can be a celebration in its own right, if you’re anything like me and find that you’re swayed easily by others opinions, it can be really unhelpful to go with an ‘entourage’! I tried on lots of beautiful dresses in each shop, but I was struggling to find one that I felt comfortable in, but also flattered me, and made me feel like a bride. When you try dresses on in front of your friends and family, they all have different opinions which sometimes helps, but also you can feel like you’re disappointing people if you don’t agree with their input! So for me, I decided I needed to go in and focus on my own reaction to the dresses which is exactly what I did and on my first visit to Isabella Grace, I found the dress that made me feel like a bride!
Amy was the assistant that helped me navigate the many options in store, and she was brilliant. She really listened to what I thought I wanted and gently suggested other options that based on her experience, knew that I might wish to consider!
In the end, I chose my dress as it was flattering, elegant, simple but beautiful. I of course wanted to look amazing on my wedding day, and that’s how I felt with my dress. I also wanted it to be timeless, and I think that it is!
Describe your wedding day. Where, when, how…
We got married on August 4th, (almost exactly 8 months after Kieren proposed), in Somerset on the Orchardleigh Estate. We were married in parish church, with our reception afterward at the Walled Garden. We fell in love with the venue as it had a few options for both the service and the reception, as well as accommodation for the majority of guests and no restriction on when the party would stop!
We were really lucky and had a lovely sunny day, which allowed us to make the most of the beautiful grounds.
Favourite part of your wedding day?
Having everyone together watching us commit to one another! I kept saying to Kieren all day, can you believe everyone came here today just for us! It was really special to see everyone enjoying themselves and be so happy for us.
Anything you would change if you could do it all again?
We had the best day, I don’t think I would change anything except for it to have gone on a bit longer and for us to have got to spend a bit more time with our guests!
Your top tip for future brides?
Trust your own decisions. You get to do it once, so make it count for you and your other half! No one else’s opinions matter!
